Does a copywriter need a website?

In this day and age, most businesses lack credibility if they don’t have a website.  Many tradesmen such as plumbers or builders still don’t have a web presence, but the savvy few are seeing the advantages.

But what about a copywriter?  Does a copywriter actually need a website?  In our opinion, the answer is a resounding ‘YES’.  If you’re a freelance copywriter, you’ll find it much harder to market your services if you don’t have a website.

Online copywriting portfolio

In days gone by, copywriters compiled impressive portfolios which contained printed copies of their work.  They carried these with them to demonstrate their copywriting skills and impress prospects with their dazzling array of trophy clients.

The arrival of affordable websites meant the copywriter no longer had to lug their portfolio from meeting to meeting. They could simply direct prospective clients to their website to see examples of their work.

Website copywriting

If you’re offering online copywriting services, prospective clients will look long and hard at your website.  They will use it to measure your skills.  Similarly, if you offer SEO copywriting, they will expect your website to perform well.

Most new copywriters have a very small budget and a very long list of things to spend it on.  But make no mistake, investing in a good website you can update yourself will pay dividends … over and over again.

And if you’re a Copywriting Apprentice student, be sure to look at the ‘Special Offers’ section in the Learning Gateway.  You’ll find a discounted website offer, exclusive to our copywriting students.
